What types of Westies do we get into rescue?
· About ¾ of the Westies that come into rescue are males.
· Most are adults 2 years old or older.
· We almost never get young puppies into rescue.
PLEASE CONSIDER ADOPTING EITHER SEX OR AN OLDER DOG.
We have a long list of families on our waiting list that will only consider adopting a young female.
Where do the Westies come from?
In 2003, the majority of our Westies came from animal shelters, either as strays or as owner surrenders. Because of the large number of animals the average shelter must care for every year, 73% of the Westies we took in that same year would have been euthanized if rescue had not been there for them. We are grateful for every animal shelter that works with us, together we make a difference, one Westie at a time. The rest of our Westies in 2003 came into rescue after being relinquished directly by their former owners.
Adopting a Westie
To adopt a Westie, you will first need to fill out our adoption application. Please note: There is a $20 application fee. We will check your vet, groomer and personal references. The majority of the rescues are placed directly from our waiting list and never go up on the website. Once you submit an application, you will be placed on a waiting list and contacted when a Westie comes in that matches what you are looking for. Before adoption, we will do a home visit and have you sign a placement contract. An adoption fee is required. The average adoption fee is $200.
